The Herald Journal photograph collection consists of 67 boxes with 92, negatives 35mm and mm black and white and color negatives and prints taken between and For most of the batches from there are also proof sheets and photo asments. These batches are usually of an event, person, activity, or organization from which one or two was selected to print in the newspaper. Photographs from this collection document accidents, social and public events, organizations, buildings, government, and businesses in Cache Valley.
Also included are scenic views of the area and scenes from Utah State University and public schools. The majority of these scenes are of high school and USU athletics, but there are also numerous images of student activities. Some photos appear to be submitted from USU students for a photography course. It is the responsibility of the researcher to obtain any necessary copyright clearances. Logan, Utah. Boxes and Boxes are broken down into subjects which are arranged alphabetically and the images are arranged chronologically within the subject. Each photo sleeve is given its ownbut consists of several 35mm or mm black and white negatives. Boxes 7, 7a, 8, 8a, 9, 9a, 10, 10a, 11, 11a, and use photo s which refer to year, month, and negative or proof sheet. The negatives were filed chronologically to the day within the month. Where the exact date was lacking, the negatives were filed at the end of the month.
Also included in the collection are 28 unprocessed boxes with images from the late s to the early s. Boxes are arranged by year, month and photographer when known. Boxes and 67 contain prints that are arranged by subject matter while Box 66 contains candidate information with biographies and photos of candidates, arranged alphabetically by last name.
Many of the earliest images were mounted onto photo-boards and can be accessed through the card catalog located in the reading room on the lower level of the Merrill-Cazier Library.
